- BGIA was established at the Open Championship at St Andrews in June 1984. The first Chairman was Tony Weller (company unknown).
- Formulated from golf manufacturing and distributing members of BSAIF (now FSPA), the inaugural meeting was attended by 36 companies.
- The main objective of the new association was largely to counter the proliferation of trade shows and to establish a national golf trade exhibition.
- The BGIA International Golf Trade Show was born and the first event was held at Sandown in 1986.
- Following its growing success, the event moved to the NEC in 1990. Denis Thatcher opened the 1990 Golf Trade Exhibition.
- In 1991, BGIA Exhibitions Ltd was established. The original shareholders were the BGIA (majority holding), BSAIF Exhibitions Ltd and the PGA.
- The event became one of the most important golf trade exhibitions in the world and changed its name to Eurogolf in 1993.
