The British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) held its annual Golf Day and Lunch at Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire on Wednesday 04 June, with 21 teams of four competing on the excellent Red Course.
“The BGIA Golf Day is a fantastic opportunity for our members to come together in support of two worthy causes – the Grow Golf Fund and Prostate Cancer UK,” said Martin Wild, Chair of the BGIA. “We were proud to present a £1,000 cheque to Prostate Cancer UK, with even more money raised on the day, and we’re grateful to Frilford Heath for once again hosting us so brilliantly.
“The event has become a key date in the golfing calendar and it was clear from the many conversations I had on the day just how much everyone enjoyed it. Thanks to the smooth organisation and the efficiency of everyone involved, the day concluded promptly by 4.30pm.
“A big thank you to all the members who entered teams, and a special mention to TaylorMade, Callaway, Acushnet, Brand Fusion, Cobra Puma, Glenmuir, Glenbrae and MGP Nutrition for their generous donations. It’s always inspiring to see our industry come together to collaborate and support the future of the game we all love.”
Daniel Richards from Prostate Cancer UK said: “We’d like to thank the BGIA for inviting Prostate Cancer UK to be part of their industry Golf Day for a second year running. Prostate Cancer UK is working hard to engage the whole golfing community from membership and industry bodies to golf manufacturers, retailers, venues and media – as well as golf clubs and golfers themselves – to increase awareness of a disease which affects 1 in 8 men in the UK and raise money to stop men dying unnecessarily.
“Being part of the day allowed us to meet and connect with lots of friendly people open to supporting a very important cause particularly in the golfing community given the number of male golfers and their families who could be affected. We’d like to thank the BGIA and everyone on the day who generously donated to help fund lifesaving research. With the backing of the BGIA and their members we know together we can create a world where no man dies of prostate cancer.”
Our members said:
“The BGIA event is a great insight into the initiatives driving the growth and support of golf. This year you can see the impact it’s having with more and more golf companies joining to keep beating the drum on how good this sport is and why we want to attract more people to get onto the golf course! It’s also an excellent opportunity for brands, retailers and businesses to connect and reflect on our shared purpose in the industry and continue working collectively to advance the sport we’re all passionate about.”
Leigh Fletcher, Sales Manager, Wilson
“There’s something truly special about coming together on a beautiful golf course with friends, colleagues and new connections from across the industry. Days like these remind us of the power of community. Hearing Martin share the BGIA’s vision inspires us all to play a part in shaping the future of golf – growing the game, uniting our efforts and making a lasting impact for generations to come.”
Alex Thorne, EMEA Golf Promotion Operations Manager, Mizuno Corporation UK
“Another excellent Golf Day at an excellent venue. I always look forward to the day to be able to spend quality time with my colleagues away from the office. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends within the industry which reminds me just how lucky we all are to be involved in the game we love so much. I look forward to working with the BGIA as it continues its endeavour to grow the game and get more people playing at every level.”
Steve Carter, Ping Europe
“The BGIA Golf Day is always a highlight of the year, not just because we get to play the marvellous Frilford Heath golf course, but also the camaraderie between the fabulous people that we have working in the British golf industry. Thanks again to everyone at the BGIA for running a first-class Golf Day and to Russell and his team at Frilford. See you next year.”
